Using Apple Carplay and 2nd phone using Bluetooth simultaneously

When using Apple Carplay with my iPhone from work (for calling and navigation) I cannot use a second phone for listening to music using Bluetooth simultaneously.

I checked all the Carplay settings, both on my iPhone and my car-stereo (Renault Mégane Estate, Bose with R-link 2, 2020) and I can not find any setting to make this work; Bluetooth as a source is not available anymore once I connect my iPhone with Apple Carplay.

With my previous Android phone from work and using Android Auto in the same car this was no problem at all (in fact, when connecting my personal Samsung Android phone with Android Auto I can listen to music from my company iPhone simultaneously without any problem, only that combination makes no sense of course; it needs te be the other way around).

Is there any way to fix this?

(Aside from going back to Android, which is not an option anymore due to company policies).

You can play music from another iphone in the music app on CarPlay.

What you can’t do is use an iphone for CarPlay and another connected to the head unit via Bluetooth for music.

That’s correct. You can’t do that. That is not something “normal”.

I’ll just use my personal phone for navigation + music using Android Auto and forward all calls from my company iPhone when driving..; not an ideal situation, but better than driving without my music 😁

I hope Apple will provide a solution in the future, as it should technically be possible (which is being proved by Android).

This option would also be useful for people with kids or other passengers wanting to play their music while using you own iPhone for navigation and calling using Apple CarPlay.
