LG portable DVD writer

I purchased my first Mac a few weeks ago. iMac running macOS Sonoma. I bought for a number of reasons, one being the ability to burn DVDs. since it does not have a built in DVD drive, Best Buy sold me a LG slim portable writer SP80NB80. It says it is compatable with my model. First of is came with a USB-C to USB-A cable. I bought a generic male to USB-C and plugged it in. but nothing shows up on my computer. after further review, it says only compatible with most-X. is this correct?

Is the new m2 macbook air 15 inch compatible with a 2015 apple usb2 dvd drive My wife is considering updating her 2015 era MacBook Pro to the new 15 inch M2 MacBook Air. She occasionally plays CD's on an external USB 2 DVD drive that we got with the MacBook Pro. The new Air uses Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 ports, which the local Apple store tells me is mechanically incompatible with USB 2. If we get a USB 2 female to USB 4 male adapter, will that DVD drive work with the new Air? I don't know if the driver for the DVD is a kext file included with the OS, or is in a ROM somewhere.

Does the MacMini accept an external DVD player using a USB connection? I have the DVD Player app up and showing; and an external DVD plugged in (which the paperwork states is compatible with Mac). It it is connected with the USB cord. The power light shows green when I hit it and the DVD is in. But on DVD Player (the app on MacMini), it shows no way to select the USB port or the external DVD player. I selected On My Mac and I checked the other folders that show up. What am I missing? Or will this not ever work?
