Does Time Machine only back up what's already on disk or does it also back up unsaved data in apps you currently have open?

When Time Machine is creating a backup and you concurrently have unsaved data in one or more open files, does Time Machine include the current unsaved data --

-or-

-- does Time Machine only back up the last version of any such file that's already 'on disk' (i.e., the last 'saved' version)?

Thanks.

No. Unsaved data in applications is resident in that App's memory and Time Machine only backs up what it can find on disk that is new or changed. When you save that application data, the next Time Machine backup will get it.
