Need a best app uninstaller for Mac, any suggestions?

I've been experiencing difficulties with completely removing unwanted applications from my Mac system, and I'm seeking a reliable and best app uninstaller that can help me thoroughly uninstall software and all associated files. I want to ensure that I can cleanly uninstall applications without leaving any unnecessary residues or clutter behind on my Mac. Your suggestions and insights on the best app uninstaller for Mac would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help in solving this issue.

The best option is never (or at least rarely) uninstall apps. You do this by making sure to only install the bare minimum third party apps you actually need. If you need to test those apps out to find which third party app you want to use/purchase, then I always install them to either an another test computer or I have a bootable external drive to use for that purpose. This method leaves my main boot volume as clean as possible.

I'd avoid any *clean* apps (CleanMyMac, MacKeeper etc) -- they produce only grief and misery.

Use the app uninstallers instead or just trash drag 'n drop installed apps.

Yes, they might leave some very tiny preference or support files behind but who cares if the alternative is to let those pesky *clean* apps corrupt the entire system?

An alternative is to occasionally do a spring cleaning (after some major macOS upgrade like from Sonoma to the the next macOS). So backup, boot into recovery mode (or a bootable installer), reformat an nuke the old volume, cleanly install the next macOS to it, restore ONLY user files (from TimeMachine, Carbon Copy Cloner backup etc), re-install 3rd party apps. Viola: all obsolete cruft left behind!

Yes, some folks have just upgraded to the next macOS for MANY years leaving old cruft in their systems and it is OK. Don't worry, be happy!

There has been a recent infestation of these Forums by AI / ChatBots.

They may appear as well formulated with possible technical solutions.

Suggest being very careful about this.

Some suggestions can be very incorrect, misinformed  and even impossible to do.

In modern versions of macOS, these kinds of apps are 1) impossible, and 2) dangerous.

1) There is nothing in macOS that established a guaranteed association between all the files that belong to a given app. Many people think there are such things, like BundleIDs, but they are mistaken. There is nothing. You can download and run all kinds of "app zappers" or "app cleaners" and they will appear to work fine and it seems like they are able to track down all kinds of files. But don't be fooled. It is true that these apps will work well on app that are already easy to uninstall. But in those cases, you can just drag the offending app to the trash to uninstall. These "app zappers" will fail spectacularly with complex apps - the kinds of apps where you would, in theory, really need them.

2) In addition, modern versions of macOS provide support for "system extensions". These are low-level system modification files. They can only be uninstalled by dragging the containing app to the trash or by running the vendor-provided uninstaller, assuming there is one and assuming it works. Any and all 3rd party "app zappers" or "app cleaners" will fail to remove system extensions 100% of the time. They simply can't do it. But when they attempt it, they bake those system extensions into the operating system. So once they fail, the only way to remove the system extension is by erasing your hard drive entirely and reinstalling the operating system. You can't even do a default restore from backup. These "app zappers" should be avoided at all costs on recent versions of macOS.

Check with the Developer for Specific Instruction on How to Remove their Application

Use any Third Party Uninstaller is NOT Suggested

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS,  is an invitation for disaster.

Certain Applications maybe available on the Apple Apps Store - this only means the Developer is prepared to pay Apple a percentage on each sale.

What the Application may do to the computer is up to the User to check this out before purchase

Any of the below should be removed as per Developers Instructions

Disk Cleaner

This will include CleanMyMac , aka “ BrickMyMac

MacKeeper,

Dr Cleaner Pro Plus

Open Cleaner one Pro

Macmechanic

Clean my Mac x.

MacBooster

Finder is the best app uninstaller on Mac! And it is free!

To uninstall an app on Mac, simply open Finder and navigate to the Applications folder. From there, find the app you want to uninstall, click on it, and drag it to the Trash icon in the bottom right corner of your screen. Alternatively, you can right-click on the app and select "Move to Trash" from the dropdown menu. Once the app is in the Trash, right-click on the Trash icon and select "Empty Trash" to permanently remove the app from your Mac.

It's important to note that some apps may have additional files and folders associated with them that also need to be deleted. To ensure a complete uninstallation, you can use a third-party uninstaller tool or search for any remaining files related to the app in the Library folder. Delete these files to free up space on your Mac and fully remove the app.
