Macbook pro 2011 problem. White and blue screen

My old macbook starts up with white screen. After trying to boot it to safe mode the screen goes blue.

Any thoughts?

Best regards

Thomas

Important question for you: Exactly which 2011 Macbook Pro do you have?

Video issues can vary with screen SIZE in 2011 MacBook Pros:

  • The 13-inch models have a simple, integrated graphics system that is seldom a failure point. Video failures there are more likely a hardware fault due a failed display, video inverter, or display cable.
  • The 15- and 17-inch models have a more complicated video system that adds an additional and separate graphics processor for high-demand needs. It is often that hardware—the "discrete graphics"—that fails.

In models with failed discrete graphics, it is possible to disable that system and force the computer to use the simplerintegrated graphics.

Does the problem go away if you run on battery power alone?

Do you have an external monitor you can use for diagnostic testing?
