Books app on MB Pro M3 Pro Sonoma 14.4.1 does not sync the books from iPad/iPhone

When I've opened the Books app on the MB Pro M3 Pro, it shows empty library. I've checked the icloud account from the System Preferences and everything is fine there.

When I go to Books > Settings > General > and try to click on Download new purchases automatically, it unchecks itself after 1-2 secs. I've restarted the Mac, but the result is the same.

Just to mention that I read books, mainly ePUBs from my iPad. And just out of curiousity I've opened the Books app on my iPhone 12 Pro Max, iOS 17.4.1. and the books synced automatically almost immediately.

Any ideas what might be the problem?
