unable to crop in preview

Using Ventura 13.6.6 on Mac Pro. I want to crop a square image to a circle, but cannot find the crop icon and the crop option of command-K is greyed out in the Tools menu. I'm sure I was able to do this before. Please help. Thanks

You should be able to do it this way:

  • use the View menu to show the editing toolbar
  • use the left-most menu item with the dashed outline in the editing tools bar to select a circular section the image,
  • then copy the section with ⌘C,
  • Now go the File menu and select "New image from the clip board"

And you will have new image with a transparent background around the circle.
