Turn off retro active autocorrect

Does anyone know how to turn off the retroactive auto correct? I don’t mind the current word being changed but not the one two words ago.

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 17

Phone autocorrect goes beyond simple one-word fixes. It uses context to make smarter corrections throughout your sentence. Here's how it works:

  • Considering Past Words: Imagine you're typing "I went to the beach yesterday and saw a dolfin." iPhone recognizes "dolfin" isn't a word, but based on the context of "beach," it corrects it to "dolphin."
  • Predicting Meaning: Let's say you write "went to the store to buy some bred." iPhone understands from "store" and "buy" that you likely misspelled "bread," so it suggests the correction.
  • Understanding Grammar: Typing "We were at the park" with a missing apostrophe in "we're" might trigger a change because the context of the past tense suggests a contraction is needed.

These are just a few examples. iPhone's autocorrect is constantly learning and improving, taking more factors into account to make your writing smooth and accurate.
