Purpose of turning off Lidar on my iPhone Pro Max camera

I noticed I can turn off Lidar of my iphone pro max camera. Please let me know what is the purpose of turning it off. Since it take better photos with it on. In other words, when it needs to be off.

When simply taking pictures, Lidar allows the camera to autofocus much quick and is especially useful in darker environments where autofocus would normally take longer. This results in sharper pictures.

What method did you use to shut Lidar off?
