keep volume setting separately for headphone and speaker

When using airpods to listen to music, my volume setting is 5/10. Once i disconnect airpods, I want the iphone speaker setting to be 1/10. In the past, iPhone could remember speaker and airpods volume setting differently. A recent update(?) messed up this feature, i found several times , my speaker is blast loud music after i used airpods then disconnected airpods, volume setting for speaker kept at 5/10, which I only wanted to be 1/10.

does anyone know how to change this feature back to what is was before? Thanks.
