5K Retina 27” 2017 drives upgrade

Hello everyone, i am sure this was asked a million times but 1.info is scattered all over 2. I am super bad at finding info : )

is there any ultimate compatibility list or something that helps identify which nvme and SATA can be installed into this particular Mac.

currently i am looking at Samsung 990Pro but i don’t think 2027 imac supports 4x4.

I will be doing the upgrade my self.

Currently it has 1tb HDD and 128gb ssd.

Two concerns i have are: nvme heat sink and fans sensor for SATA(the one replacing the HDD).

When it comes to the external drive and booting from it.. any brand will work as long as i have the enclosure for it and hook it up to tbolt on my imac correct ?

How is OWC speed vs Apple’s stock one(internal)?

by “any” i meant flagships such as Samsung, WD.. not really looking into team group, Inland etc
