T-Mobile Sim and "No Service" on iPhone 5

T-mobile carrier installed a new SIM card into my backup iPhone 5. It worked briefly while in the T-mobile store, later it read "No Service". I returned to T-mobile and was told it's a phone issue. I would like to use the iPhone 5 if a solution exists.

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 17

T-Mobile no longer operates a 2 or 3G network, and an iPhone 5 cannot use any network more modern than 3G (such as 4G/LTE), so you cannot use it as a cell phone, only as an internet appliance on Wi-Fi. If you have Wi-Fi calling enabled on your account you may be able make phone calls over Wi-Fi.

I’m really surprised the people in the T-Mobile store didn’t know this.
