My character count in Pages does not match the count in an application--so I keep getting denied, as the application is saying I am 200 characters over the limit, while Pages says it is only 964 characters

You can test Pages character counting ability. Enter a block of words where you know exactly how many words were entered. Select that block of text and then let Pages tell you how many words, and characters were selected. If that is accurate, then the other application is wrong. Could the other application be counting spaces?
Select the text in Pages and set the floating word count panel to characters with spaces. Copy the selected text to the clipboard.
Launch the Terminal app and on the command line, enter the following:
pbpaste | wc -c
The reported character count in the Terminal should match what Pages is reporting for its character count.
that turned out to be the problem. I wasn't counting spaces thanks
