how to change the order of photos so new pics are on top

The Library and Recents, etc, are views of your pictures that can be counted on to be always the same. Their contents and order can't be changed. That way when there appear to be problems we can check there and not worry that we won't see what we're supposed to see because someone changed it!

But you can make a Smart Album (we're talking about your Mac Mini, right?) that contains all your pictures and which can be sorted in either direction. Just do File>New Smart Album..., name it My Library or whatever, and

set it to, maybe, "Date Captured" "is after" "7/4/1776" or something like it. Mine is patriotic, and I've yet to find a photograph with an earlier capture date. Some people use "Filename includes . " since all filenames have a "." in them.

Then you can use View>Sort>Keep Sorted By Newest First" or whichever you like.

Albums and Smart Albums that you make, can be sorted in the same way.

The Library and Recents can't be changed, so the sorting is grayed out. This is how it has alway been set up-- to maintain truly dependable views of all the pictures.

But an Album that you make, or a Smart Album can be sorted.

And, by the way, even the albums in a folder can be sorted alphabetically.
