Anyone Know How to Remove Now Playing from Lock Screen

I use my phone and earbuds daily at the gym. All of the sudden, starting this morning, whatever I am listening to shows on my lock screen and takes up the entire screen. Before today, the lock screen picture I have set up showed with the now playing as a small notification sized item. Any app that I am using to play music with, shows the current song and album art on the entire lock screen. I believe this is expected behavior, but one that I do not prefer. I much prefer to see my actual lock screen background when glancing down to check a notification or time, and the now playing being on a small notification sized item on the lock screen in line with other notifications (stacked). I do not want to see what's currently playing (or paused) covering my entire lock screen. As mentioned, this did not start until this morning, from previously until this morning I did not change any settings (that I am aware of) nor did the iOS update. I've tried several things to get my phone back to how it was before (showing lock screen image and notifications only that includes a small now playing) by changing any setting suggestion I can find on the web, all to no avail. Does anyone have suggestions?
