Can you sync imessage between macs (no iOS device)?

I have two macs but no iOS device. Is it possible to sync imessage between them?

It sounds like iCloud might be the way, but the text "sync with iCloud" doesn't appear at all for me when I go to Messages _ Settings _ iMessage, though I've seen screenshots for other people where that option is listed.

iMessages not syncing automatically between Mac My MAC is 15.6.1 (24G90). My IPhone Pro Max 16 is 18.6.2. My IMessages between the two devices are NOT automatically synching. I have to manually synch on each device. I Cloud and Apple are signed into the same PW. I have tried restarting each device, but have had no luck. How can I sync iMessage between iPhone and Mac without using iCloud? HELP! I am one of the few iPhone and macOS users that does not like nor wish to use iCloud as it collects and stores things automatically, which is most annoying. Plus, it seems to be one more thing I have to manage, and I am already busy enough as it is. However, I would like my messages to sync from my iPhone to my MacBook Pro 16. If you use iCloud for Messages, which means your messages are housed in iCloud, they would appear the same on all your Apple devices.
