unable to sign in to a new Apple TV Box

I have Apple TV+ app subscription. I just bought a new Apple TV Box but I am unable to get it working.

While I have a fibre optics Internet provider, I am not subscribing to any TV service

(other than Apple TV+ app).

Consequently, I do not have a TV provider which appears as a required step in signing in to the Box.

Is there a way to make Apple TV Box useable without the TV provider?

(I have an iPhone and a MacMini, if they were useful in the process. My 2016 smart LG TV does not have AirPlay.)

I welcome any practical ideas to overcome the block,

otherwise, the Box becomes a piece of environmental garbage!

The TV provider option is, well, optional. It would unlock the access to certain TV provider channels through the Apple TV box, if applicable and if supported by that TV provider and channel owner.

You may skip that question (or fill in later).

If you don’t have a TV provider (like cable TV or satellite TV), then select channel apps that require a TV provider plan (For the US: ABC, NBC, etc.), wouldn’t be accessible to you. If you don’t have a TV provider, then you likely wouldn’t be interested in that anyway. So nothing lost.

I'm not sure what issue you may be having however I would strongly recommend that you give AppleCare a call so they can help you get connected. Also, if you haven't already please read over Set up your Apple TV - Apple Support. This will tell you the bare minimum that you need which is:

  • Personal internet
  • A TV or other display with an HDMI port
  • An HDMI cable to connect the Apple TV to your LG TV

You can find the AppleCare phone number for your area by clicking AppleCare Contact Info. They can help you get your Apple TV setup so you can begin streaming content. Please have the following available to you when you call:

  • Wi-Fi Network name and password assuming you are using Wi-Fi, if not then your Ethernet network name and password.
  • AppleID & password.
