How do I remove an older Apple ID that I no longer use on my iPhone SE?

Reset my SE 2nd. Gen. phone, then restored with an old Backup. Too late, I realised I had used a Backup with my old Apple ID. This ID is no longer in use so cannot reset it. I spent hours on phone with an Apple adviser, telling me to put my phone in Recovery mode….this did not work either and thinking about it…..it would not work as any one could do that to a phone they got hold off. Also told me to goto an Apple Store, but I contacted them, and they said NO .only Apple can solve this problem. Anyone here had similar problem?
