It is not the first time I noticed that Quicktime drags and fails to play a range of formats. Last time I tried to lose FLAC and APE before that - no luck.
Perhaps somebody could help with the solution or recommend a better alternatives to Quicktime.

ok, well two good options often recommended here are IINA media player and VLC media player.
I came across Swinsian music player the other day, and it looks pretty impressive.
It lists FLAC and APE support, as well as many other formats.
if you want an app for music playback, have you considered using apple's built in music app?
I'd say I'm looking for an alternative media player overall, failed to note it in the description.
