After updating Safari to 17.4.1 a page that used to work now yields only 'A problem repeatedly occurred.
How can I downgrade Safari back to a version that works so I can get on with life?

That site is working ok on this Mac. Please exhaust all of the suggestions on this page: If Safari doesn't open a page or work as expected on your Mac - Apple Support.
Thanks very much for the reply - the "Test with a private window" steps seem to have worked but only after doing them twice. Odd.
The "private window" test obviates a number of concerns. The reason you needed to do it twice is indeed odd, but it's probably not worth the time to investigate.
