Disable the blue iBeam cursor

At some point, a new cursor icon began to appear on my laptop while typing. It's a blue background iBeam icon with a strikethrough. I haven't figured out what triggers it, sometimes it shows up when I change focus to a new text prompt or window, but often it shows up over top of text I'm typing. It seems to have appeared during a software upgrade at some point in the last year.

It looks similar to the caps lock indicator, but I can't find any reference to this in documentation. I'd very much like to disable it.

I'm on the latest version of Sonoma on a MacBook Pro.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 14.4

Is this isolated to a particular browser. what browser is this...?

To trouble shoot further you can:

—A SafeBoot Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

This test will tell you if third party interference; most extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.
