DVD+R put in external disk drive connected to MacBook Pro and it never shows up on the desktop. It grinds and eventually ejects the disk. I tried going to Finder/Preferences, but there is no Preferences under Finder. I know I have played these DVDs in the past (maybe two updates since then) but now it doesn't even show up in the finder to eject. Not sure if it is Sonoma 14.4.1 since it has been a long time. Thanks for any help.

If this is a one off— try a different DVD and compare your results.
—clean the DVD
—clean the heads in the external disk drive and compare your results.
Finder Settings>Sidebar>CD's, DVD, iOS devices
verify you spin open the carrot in Locations if you see nothing— move your mouse to the right side
This is not to say your "external disk drive" is compatible with the the 14.4.1 update...
