how do I get rid of small tab at the left hand side of Safari windows windows?

I don't know how to reproduce it, it has shown up as small tab and I can't get rid of it. I'm not surf this is associated with bookmarks or not, or with "new empty tab group". I just can't get rid of it and I would like to learn how to prevent it coming back.. Thanks for any help!
