TextEdit cannot insert Table and horisontal line

TextEdit cannot insert a horisontal line ?

Nor can I insert table. The option is greyed out.

Are you composing a rich text or plain text document. You need rich text for those things.

I open a txt document - Settings - choose Rich Text

The menu Format- Table is still greyed out

But if I open a new txt document, I see the List and Table options are not greyed out

So I have to paste my old text into this new txt document

I also would need a Horisontal Line Separator, and modify the table that I have inserted

A pre-exiting txt file that is in Plain Text Format would not have the ability to insert a Table


Example below of Plain Text formatted document


But in that same Plain Text Document it can be Changed to Rich Text Format


Therefore the Insert Table is available
