how to connect new MacBook to iPhone

my old MacBook connected to my iPhone. I have since purchased a new MacBook but my phone will not connect. I tried bluetooth but still not connected.

For backup purposes? You can't use Bluetooth for that. We used to be able to do it wirelessly, but we can't do that any more.
