Apple News+ Crossword Crashes!

This is so annoying. 🤬 I'm hoping the hivemind of community knows of a fix or workaround. 🐝 🙏🏼

I love doing the Apple News+ large crossword puzzle, but it crashes randomly, erasing some or all of everything I've input. 😱

Has anyone else had this issue?

I've tried "saving" it every few minutes or so, by going back to the main screen. It seem to get "paused," but I don't know if it's actually helping or not.

I'm on an M3 MBAir running the very latest OS (Sonoma 14.4.1 (23E224), and have had a clean install since I got the laptop in March.

If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears👂🏼👂🏼

Much Obliged,

Mick

Idris, I don't belive that Apple's lack of response or bug fix is indicative of a low frequency of crashes. There's rarely seems correlation there when a bug is not crashing their hardware or having a major deleterious effect.

It still happens on both of my modern Macs with an M1 Max and an M3, but I'm usually on the M3 MacBook Air.

Not running any off-the-beaten-path hacks on either.

I wish Apple was more transparent about these Product Feedback submissions too. You feel like it just goes into a black hole that no human is likely ever to read.

I'm going on what seems to be the logical assumption that Apple is more likely to expend money and development resources on things that 1) are security threats, 2)may cause data loss and/or 3) are affecting a lot of people. Based on the paucity of threads on this matter, I suspect that not very many people have this issue. And it certainly doesn't fall under categories one or two.

If only a small percentage of users are having this problem, that means an even smaller number are reporting it to Apple. That means very few data points for Apple to even look at. I'm pretty sure this is way down the list.

That's a reasonable suggestion, but still time-consuming and frustrating because no one wants to run a system in Safe Mode and you could easily spend an hour adding and subtracting things and still not figure it out for Apple.

And I guess that's my gripe here too. When I was young and worked full-time as an Apple Tech, it was one thing to spend all day trying to find workarounds for clients. At least I got paid to do so. But these days, I just feel like I don't have the time to do Apple's work for them, and just wish they'd be more proactive and look into these bugs.

Posting here, I'm always hopeful someone else might have had the same issue and found a workaround.

Totally agree with numbers 1 and 2. I think 3 remains something we can only speculate about.

There's a bug and Mac Messages too where the print disappears and you have to resize the windows or create a lot of "carriage" returns to prevent. That too has not been fixed.

Priorities are part of the real world, but Apple is also a 3 TRILLION dollar company and Jobs hated bugs and crashes of any kind.

Just sayin'

If there aren't very many threads about it and it doesn't make the trade press, it's probably not affecting very many people. Or, it's only affecting people who are very, very introverted.

Never had that happen. And I haven't seen very many posts about that either. So, perhaps things that don't happen to a lot of people are less likely to get fixed.....? Just sayin'

All developers hate bugs and crashes. And Steve Jobs has been dead since 2011. Tim Cook has now been CEO for three times as long as Jobs was. Time to move on
