Is there a way to correct word deletion issue on my iPhone 13?

Sometimes when I compose a message, I need to correct recent word.

When I backspace, my iPhone 13 deletes the entire word, which is OK.

But sometimes it continues wildly racing each subsequent word till the messages is gone. What am I doing wrong? What setting do I need to change? What the heck is going on?
