All of my iOS simulator suddenly gone

My Xcode and Simulator cannot locate any of my iOS simulators all the sudden. I had to redownload new ios simulators from the Xcode menu.

I did not update my Xcode, so I am curious about what caused it.

In the directory, '/Users/username/Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/Devices/', I was able to find all my previous iOS simulators. Show in the picture

But somehow Xcode and the Simulator program are not picking it up.

Also, on a side note, as I want to see which folder has the actual os files, I toggled 'Calculate All Sizes' in the view options menu, and it somehow changed most of the folders' Modified date, as seen in the screenshot that some contents in the folder are there from a long time ago. Not sure how that changed the date.

My chip is M1 Pro, and running os 14.3.1 Sonoma

Thank you.

This might be the cause of it. However, after making sure my XProtect is in version 133 and updating my OS to Sonoma 14.4.1, XCode/Simulator is still not able to pick up my previously installed iOS runtimes.

I will just re-download the runtimes from XCode for now.

( I had iOS 16 previously, and downloaded 15 and 17 yesterday)

I'm having no luck with getting my simulators running despite trying a few fixes found. This seems odd because I was running multiple device simulations via Safari fine about a week ago.

THE PROBLEM

Safari can't find any simulators. When I enter Responsive Design Mode, it shows Open With Simulator drop menu > Add Simulators. Selecting that launches a help doc about how to add them.

But I already have iOS 17.5 runtime downloaded as shown in Xcode > Settings > Platforms. Plus Xcode > Devices & Simulators > Simulators shows a complete list of default devices.

THINGS TRIED

  • Deleted iOS 17.5 platform ands re-downloaded (before had 17.2 and 17.4 and neither worked).
  • Deleted Xcode Cache from Mac Settings > Storage > Developer > Xcode Caches
  • Added new simulators via Xcode > Devices & Simulators > +. But this just creates devices like the ones that exist using the 17.5 runtime platform. Nothing new or default works.
  • Discovered some cryptic info about "XProtect Remediator 132" damaging runtimes. Led to this official response about rebooting machine and re-downloading simulator runtime. Did so without success.
  • Found a dev forum post about forcing reinstall of Remediator 133 to fix. That isn't available as far as I can tell and terminal reports the following: "XProtectPayloads_10_15-133: No such update / No updates are available."

I'm running latest macOS Sonoma 14.5, Xcode 15.4, and Safari 17.5.

Anyone have other ideas or pointers for me please?
