how to remote in to a mac mini from my macbook air

Question

I need to travel and will have my macbook air, but will need to remote into my work mac mini to access programs. How can I do this?

OR

Is there a way to pair my macbook with my mac mini at work so that whatever work I do on the laptop will automatically be updated on the mac mini

By “work” if you mean user data files, iCloud can do this. See Keep your files up to date and share them with iCloud Drive - Apple Support. However, you’ll still need local copies of the programs you use (which shouldn’t normally be an issue).
