Cannot run Intel app on my M1 MacBook

I have been trying to get an Intel application, downloaded from the internet, to run on my M1 MacBook. Unfortunately I keep getting the error: "The application "cMv_v0.8_MacOS" can't be opened". Rosetta is installed and working as I am able to open other Intel applications such as Google Earth Pro. I took the following steps to download the application:

  • Downloaded a zipfile from: https://zenodo.org/records/4031812
  • Unzipped the MacOS download which showed the application
  • Moved the application to my application folder in Finder

Does anyone know why this application won't run on my MacBook?

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 14.1

M1 and later Apple Silicon Macs cannot run any 32-bit Intel applications — even with Rosetta 2. You should exercise caution when downloading applications from any source other than the original vendor. If Zenodo.org is not the app developer, drag the application to your Trash. If they are the original developers, you must confirm that the app is a 64-bit Intel application that they have tested on M1 Macs, or that they have an Apple Silicon-specific app version.
