Nothing goes online except calling, texting, app store and Safari

This is my daughter's iphone 7. For the past couple months, the only applications that can make connections are texting, calling, Safari, and the app store. On the Music app, you can search for songs and play songs that are already downloaded, but playing songs online gets you "Could not connect to the server." You can download apps from the app store, but if they require you to go online while using them (like podcasts) then you get a similar message. (But you can download apps that only are on your phone and use them fine.) This happens with wi-fi and cellular both. Its operating system is updated. And it can go online with those items above, so it's not a fundamental problem making connections. It's not using any VPN. What might work?

While its not using VPN, does it have a VPN profile installed? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile.
