I have my MacBook Pro in a raised and I use a separate keyboard. The only this I need the Mac's keyboard for is the fingerprint button, and it's quite a stretch. I'd like to find a fingerprint reader than can be plugged into a cable from the computer. THere are plenty of them but they all say they are for Windows. Are there any that work with the Mac?

No, that's not possible. Only properly linked Apple hardware can access the Secure Enclave to unlock anything.
