Using iphone or iPad as finger print scanner for iMac

I moved to a mechanical keyboard recently, and though I was excited by the ease of typing, the thrill quickly faded when I realized it was without a fingerprint scanner. Peripheral scanners are not supported by MacOSx. I know there is a way I can configure my iPhone or iPad to perform this function. I'm just not sure how to do it! Thank you. CL

I concur with Tim; that's not possible except with a third-party app that will allow an iPhone to unlock your Mac (Near Lock being one I've found). But that to me wouldn't seem to be that much easier then just typing in your password. If you want fingerprint scanning on your Mac to easily unlock it, use Apple Pay, etc., you'll need to buy Apple's Magic Keyboard with Touch ID (assuming your Mac supports it).

Regards.
