How to turn iPad & iPhone 90 degrees COUNTER clockwise; so the charge port is at the TOP & the screen is not upside down; thus I can keep using the device and still charge it simultaneously. Again, charge port will be at the top.

Turn your device 90 degrees COUNTER clockwise. Notice screen is upside down. Why is this not an option?

iPad Pro, iPadOS 17

Depending on the App you are using, this may or may not work.

For instance, the Home Screen on an iPad and some apps like Safari will rotate and be right side up when you rotate the iPad in any orientation as long as Orientation Lock is not turned on.

This is not, unfortunately, the case on an iPhone.

You can offer feedback to Apple if you would like to see this option in future updates.

For iPadOS16 and later, if supported by your iPad*, try using Stage Manager.

With this feature enabled, most Apps are displayed within individual App "windows" - providing considerably more flexibility with screen rotation:

Settings > Home Screen & Multitasking > Stage Manager > Use Stage Manager on iPad - set to ON

(*) These iPad models support Stage Manager:

  • iPad Air (5th generation and later)
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (all generations)
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later)
