Finder keeps crashing

iMac Pro. macOS 14.4.1. Finder keeps crashing. After reboot it works for some time and crashes. Reopening is not helping, need to restart. The same was in previous OS versions. Sometimes crashing other apps for example if trying to upload document in browser, Notes, etc. There are plenty of free space on disk. What i've tried already:

  1. Started in safe mode. No help, Finder crashed in safe mode also;
  2. Reinstalled OS through recovery mode. Not a clean reinstall with formatting/re-partitioning of disk, but still;
  3. Mac diagnostic did not find any problems;
  4. Run long hardware test with Techtool pro. All good;
  5. First aid from recovery mode. No help.
  6. Reset the Finder. No help.
  7. Disconnect all connected peripherals. No help.

This is an issue:

Configuration Files:

    /etc/hosts - Count: 6

Please see: Fixing a hacked /etc/hosts file - Apple Community

It is likely that many of the issues flagged in the Diagnostic section can be healed by uninstalling CleanMyMac with extreme prejudice, as other have recommended.

Since 2000, the macOS—cat-like— has cleaned itself with elegant, automated self-maintenance routines that run in the small hours of the morning. The third-party fearware crew knows this but insist on pushing their cleaning apps anyway. All they do is conflict with elegance you paid Apple to build into the OS. That causes issues of all kinds.

Based on the EtreCheckPro report, your iMac Pro is experiencing several issues:

I notice that System Integrity Protection is disabled: This leaves your computer vulnerable to malware infection.

Apple security disabled: Apple security software is disabled, increasing the risk of malware infection.

So it looks as though your Mac's ability to avoid malware is compromised.

Major Issues:

  1. Unsigned files: There are unsigned software files installed that could potentially be harmful and should be reviewed.
  2. System Integrity Protection disabled: This leaves your computer vulnerable to malware infection.
  3. Apple security disabled: Apple security software is disabled, increasing the risk of malware infection.

Minor Issues:

  1. Apps crashing: Finder is crashing frequently along with other applications.
  2. Apps with heavy CPU usage: Some apps are utilizing excessive CPU resources.
  3. Low performance: EtreCheck report took an unusually long time to run, indicating potential performance issues.
  4. Kernel extensions present: There are kernel extensions installed that may not be compatible with future macOS versions.
  5. Sharing enabled: Sharing services are enabled, posing a security risk.

Recommendations:

  1. Enable System Integrity Protection: This is crucial for protecting your system from malicious software. You can enable it by booting into recovery mode and using the Terminal to enable SIP.
  2. Review unsigned files: Investigate any unsigned files and remove or replace them with signed alternatives from trusted sources.
  3. Enable Apple security: Ensure that Apple security software is enabled to provide additional layers of protection against malware.
  4. Address app crashes: Troubleshoot and resolve the underlying causes of app crashes, which could involve updating or reinstalling problematic applications.
  5. Optimize performance: Investigate the causes of low performance and heavy CPU usage. Consider upgrading hardware components if necessary.
  6. Review kernel extensions: Determine if any kernel extensions are unnecessary or incompatible, and remove them if possible.
  7. Disable unnecessary sharing: Disable sharing services that are not essential to reduce potential security risks.
  8. Regularly update software: Keep your macOS and installed applications up to date to ensure compatibility, security, and performance improvements.

You have two major issues. The first is that you have turned off the built in malware protection. While that might not be the direct cause of your problem, it's a huge risk.

The second issue, the one that could well be the cause of your problems is CleanMyMac. It's pretty close to being malware and is a frequent culprit in issues such as this. Delete it according to the developer's instructions and then see how the Mac works.

Thanks for your answers.

I know exactly what i'm doing with hosts file :) - its not the case

But still temporary reverted to original one.

I also can read in Etrecheck report about CleanMyMac and already tried without it earlier. The problem is also not there. But still for testing purposes removed it now. Will see how it goes and will let you know later.
