Otp you g to old phone

I moved to iPhone 14, gave my iPhone 11 to my husband. I put the phones next to each other and then reset my iPhone 12 and it said clear to give away. I then did the same with my husbands old iPhone 7 to the iPhone 11. We both obviously have our own phone numbers.

now my otp texts are going to my old iPhone 11. How can I stop this? My husband said there was some sort of ‘legacy’ message the first time but neither of us has any idea what that may be. Joe can I stop the otp messsges going to the wrong phone.

If your old iPhone 11 is still receiving authentication codes it means its still logged in to your Apple ID.

You needed to have entirely erased it before giving it to your husband.

Also note, two-factor authentication codes are sent to the trusted devices or the number you have added as a trusted phone number to your Apple ID.

That number should not for any reason be the current number of your iPhone. It should be a number you have access to even when you don't have access to the iPhone.

On the new device, or any other devices signed in to your Apple ID, go to Settings ➜ Apple ID ➜ Sign In & Security ➜ Two-Factor Authentication ➜ Trusted Phone Number and change it to a different one that is not your own phone number.
