Can't see any new messages

Beforehand my phone would send me a notification of a new text message. When I opened messages I could see the little preview it gives you as soon as you open the iMessage app. When I tap inside the conversation all the new messages are gone. And now it's not even giving me notifications for new messages. I have to answer all texts from my MacBook.
