How to use reminders on repeat?

I am new to Reminders app, because when it first came out it would not do what I wanted. Will it now allow me to do this?

-create a reminder to do something every 7 days

-automatically adjust that reminder to update the due dates for future repeats/reminders based on when I complete the task, like so:

  • I click 'done' for changing the sheets today, 5/11
  • without any extra typing, a reminder shows up on 5/18
  • if I do the sheets early thanks to a kitty hairball on 5/14 and check done on that day
  • next reminder shows up on 5/21?

I am not seeing a description of this on this page, but maybe I'm just missing something?

Use Reminders - Apple Support

As I see it, and find in page in my browser agrees, the word repeat only appears on that page in a different context

Tap a reminder, then tap the Edit Details button. Tap Subtasks > Add Reminder, then type your subtask. Repeat for as many subtasks as you'd like to create.

That's not what I want to repeat.

Does reminders.app do what I'm asking for yet?

It does not. The Reminders app, as you have learned, will have a starting date and a repeating period from that starting date. You may mark an event as completed before the due date, however that will not adjust the starting period. This means that the next occurrence of that reminder will be on the next scheduled day/date.
