My iPhone 14 Pro Max does not show the Wifi 2.4 or 5Ghz bands in settings

14 Pro Max iOS - 17.4.1.

I remember next to my WIFi provider it used to tell me what band I was attached to 2.4 or 5Ghz. There was also a tab if you selected "i" next to the provider which again stated what band you were on and I think allowed you to switch. This feature has totally gone it seems. No bothered about Apples dumbing down policy but this is/was a very useful feature and standard on all other smart phones

Anyone know if its just me ?

Unless your Wi-Fi router has assigned different names to the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, you won't be able to tell the iPhone which band with which to connect.

As it stands now, the phone will connect to the signal that has the best combination of signal strength, speed and low interference. What that actually means remains a mystery.

In theory, the phone will connect to 5 GHz if it is in close proximity to the router and 2.4 GHz if it is a few rooms away from the router.

The downside to trying to "lock" the phone for 5 GHz for example.......the phone will stay connected to 5 GHz, even if the 2.4 GHz signal is providing a faster connection.

Finally, I don't remember whether Apple ever offered the option that you mention on earlier model phones. If it was there, I never noticed it.
