One Apple ID, different countries

I have switched countries, from India to France. As a result, I thought it would be possible for me to download apps otherwise banned in India. That wasn't the case. I still can't download apps banned in India; eg. CapCut/TikTok.

I am told I need to make a new Apple ID for the French App Store.

If the above^ is true, I have a couple of questions.

  1. What happens to my Indian Apple ID (Which I use for my entire apple ecosystem)?
  2. What happens to the paid apps I have purchased, which are linked to my Indian App Store?
  3. What happens to the apps already on my apple devices, downloaded using the Indian App Store? Will I have to download them all again, and essentially set up my phone again as a new phone???
  4. Will I loose iCloud data, and other data linked to my Indian App Store purchases?
  5. Will I be inconvenienced to great lengths in order to make it possible for some basic apps to be downloaded?
  6. Why does apple not have a provision to switch countries on the App Store, when u actually ARE switching countries?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Just physically switching countries won't do anything. Restrictions are dependent on the country/region of your Apple ID.

Not necessarily, you could though. If you're permanently in France now, just change your Apple ID country (see below).

They do. See below.

To switch countries, you have to do the following (Change your Apple ID country or region - Apple Support):

  • Spend any credit on your Apple ID balance (or if it's too little, ask the iTunes Store staff to zero it for you)
  • Cancel any subscriptions that block a country/region change, then wait for them to end
  • Wait for any refunds to process
  • Make sure you have a French payment method
  • If you use iCloud+, you may be subject to new pricing (higher or lower than before)

Then, go to Settings > [your name] > Media & Purchases > View Account > Country/Region and change it. You'll be prompted to agree to the T&C again, then you must put in your new French payment method.
