voicemail deleted 17.5 update

Last night I updated my iPhone 13 Pro to iOS 17.5. This morning, I discovered all my voicemail messages and my voicemail greeting had been deleted. Is there a fix for this problem?

I had the same issue after updating to OS 17.51 - all old voice mails disappeared.

Contacted Apple tech support, and here's what they recommended:

"Let's try to reset network settings on your device so please Tap Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Resetting network settings resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, as well as cellular and VPN settings that the customer has used before."

This restored my old VM's that were previously missing. Hard reset my phone 2x, that did not help (prior to contacting Apple).

Verizon is our carrier and they do not allow you to see/view/hear voice messages. My phone was also backed up via iCloud, but apparently VM's not stored there.

Good luck.

the 17.5.1 update erased all my voicemail - after reading a few post, I turned my phone off and back on but still no voicemail, I called my voicemail but the old ones were not there. I rebooted my phone by turning it off and back on 4 times and finally the voicemails came back. I then immediately disabled auotmatic software updates.

As I haven’t seen any other reports of it, the fix should be with your phone or your carrier as voicemail is a carrier-provided service. The first thing to check is with your carrier, and ask if they have a voicemail outage. What you can check:

  • Voicemail requires cellular data, so make sure cellular data is on
  • Go to Down Detector - Crowdsourced Outage Check and see if other users have reported a problem
  • Log in to your carrier’s voicemail server (the instructions should be on their website, but it is usually done by opening the Phone app, go to the dial pad, and hold the “1” for 2 seconds, or call your own number)
  • See if the messages are still on the server.

I tried rebooting my phone and it didn’t work. Came here and saw that someone had to reboot their phone twice to get their voicemails back. Tried that and it worked! Thank goodness, my mom has dementia and I’ve been saving her voicemails for years since the initial diagnosis. I was crushed when I thought I had lost them. That would have been enough to send me back to Android…

I rebooted my iPhone, but none of the voicemail messages came back. Then I called into my voicemail. Dialing *86 on the Verizon network, and a few of my messages came back, but not all of them. This is a problem.

So frustrating, I usually wait at least a week to upgrade for new iOS versions, but this time I immediately upgraded because I was anxious for Siri to get fixed so that it stops duplicating words when you dictate.
