How to turn off Barrel Roll on Apple Pencil Pro?

Does anyone know how to turn the new barrel roll feature off? It looks gross on my notes and I don't like it. Apple support has no idea, it seemed like they weren't even aware that the new product was being released.

There is no such option in the settings. I haven’t seen it on my 13“ Air and haven’t seen it in any YouTube video about the pencil pro. It’s not even in the official pencil pro help video from Apple Support.

Nope still no option unfortunately. Apple Support have the engineering team looking at the case as they’ve been able to replicate the issue themselves and they suspect the bug was missed during testing. It’s almost unusable in its current state using the ballpoint pen tip in notes as the barrel roll changes direction constantly when writing without rotating it and as well every time you switch between tools so there’s no way to maintain a comfortable grip of the pencil in your fingers. Will let you know when I have an update. I advised them that I’ll need to return the device and go back to the prior gen iPad Pro if it doesn’t change.

I filled out a support feedback form to apple asking the very question of how to turn it OFF. I'm sure it's great in procreate etc. but I'm with you when using it in the notes app it's terrible. I even called to verify there isn't a way to turn it off. The support I spoke with while very helpful had no idea and then emailed me the form so I could provide feedback. I am on the brink of returning my new iPad Air 13 inch and not trading in my older iPad Air as I use my iPad the most to take. notes. I really really hope this changes. I'm super disappointed with the new purchase. Aside from that I love the new iPad Air and the large screen. I just wish I had known this as I might have waited. It seems if there is a way to turn it ON in the Procreate there should be a way to turn it off. Please if anyone hears otherwise or a way to work around this comment.

Mine can’t do the barrel roll neither. I already tried to pair it again but no Luck. I’m on the base 13” iPad Air. I’m now somewhat worried that the barrel roll is an iPad Pro feature. But as far as I can see here are some pro users with the same issue.

btw I think I accidentally skipped the barrel roll intro when I originally connected the pencil to my iPad. Maybe then the feature gets disabled…

I have the iPad Pro 11 inch & also have issues. At first the barrel roll worked, after a week I finally have a matte screen protector and ESR case. I’ve noticed now my barrel roll does not work. I found this discussion board to find answers. I tried removing the case and it still doesn’t work :/ wondering if it’s the screen protector but don’t want to take the screen protector off, hopefully there is a solution soon. Wondering if the update had anything to do with it also…

Also thought my double-tap feature didn’t work but realized I was double squeezing instead of tapping - oops - it works :)

@reags_b were you able to turn barrel roll off? I will NOT be upgrading to the M4 iPad Pro & Apple Pencil Pro if this "feature" cannot be turned off. It's completely useless for note taking, which is mainly what I use my 2018 iPad Pro for.

And how did this get turned into a thread for people looking to enable barrel roll when the OP asked how to disable it? Weird...
