Logging into icloud on ipod or old apple tv
Update to many questions asked on the forums to logging in to an older model apple tv or an ipod and you are asked for a recovery key or need to continue to enter the login information again.
When you have 2FA set up, older devices do not know how to accept the verification code.
On ipod to login if you presented with screen to enter recovery key, tap on "back," re-enter your password and then enter the verification code requested (see below how to generate), no spaces between the password and the code. Tap next.
To get the code, on a trusted device that is much newer than the device you are trying to log in to, go into settings, tap on your name at the top (apple ID), tap on two factor authentication, tap on get verification code. This is the code you enter immediately after the password, in the same box, in the same line, without spaces, right after the password.
On older apple tv: use the remote to labouriously enter your apple ID email, then enter password, submit, then it will put you back to the log in screen. Enter ID again if needed, then password and on the same line as the password put the verification code THAT YOU JUST NOW GENERATED USING THE METHOD ABOVE because the one sent to your trusted device has already expired by the time you entered everything again.
And that's how you two-factor on old apple devices.
I hope that saves you from much hair-pulling as I went through.
