Macbook Pro 15 (2018) only booting in safe mode

Hello everybody,

I have a Macbook Pro 15 (2018) which suddenly did not boot. It showed the Folder with a question mark. I was able to enter recovery mode and disc utility. It did not show the internal SSD. After a quick search on google i saw this macbook has the SSD installed on the motherboard and came to the conclusion it's done for.

Now a few months later i tought i'd give it a try again. Bought an external SSD and tried to install it on the eSSD. Installing Sonoma failed a couple of times mid installation, i think of overheating because it became very hot. Though after a few attempts it succesfully installed Sonoma but i was not able to boot.

When i press the power button it will start and show the Apple logo and loading bar. When the loading bar is between 50% and 99% it crashes, the fans will blow full for 1 second and then it reboots. It will stay in a boot loop.

I've executed several SMC, PRAM and NVRAM resets.

Apple Diagnostics says there are no problems.

I am hower able to boot in to safe mode. And it keeps running, though after 30 minutes the MBP turns kinda hot. I was also able to retrive a kernel panic log. But there stops my knowledge.

Can anybody tell me if its worth repairing this MBP?

from Kernel Panic log:

"macOSPanicString" : "panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff7f9a101e9a): \"virtual bool IOAccelDisplayMachine::display_mode_did_change(uint32_t): AMDRadeonAccelerator driver returns false\"

Seems to indicate a GPU or display issue of some sort (perhaps even an external display). Or it could possibly be related to some third party software such as anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, or third party security software.

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment

Make an appointment for a "hardware issue"

Outside the USA

Apple’s backbench diagnostic — AST2 (Apple Service Toolkit) is certainly more comprehensive than the consumer AHT/user diagnostic.
