New IPad Pro M4 13 inch battery draining fast

I got myself the new IPad Pro M4 13-inch (512Gb) this week, and it feels like the battery is draining really quickly. Went down 5% in just 15 minutes using standard apps like Outlook and Pages. Overnight it also lost 5%, with background activity being switched off as well as “Find My” being switched off. Currently running iOS 17.5.

Anyone else been experiencing the same? There are so many great reviews talking about the battery life of this new iPad, but the experience is proving otherwise?

My battery on my new iPad 13 in M4 model has been draining too, i charged it to 80% (12 am) went to sleep got up and it was at 49% (9 am) went to work and got back home checked the battery and it was at 23% (9 pm) I use to have the 11 in 2022 iPad pro and I never had this issue, it would last for at least 4-5 days if i didn’t use it charge would go down but not as fast as my new one. If it helps, the thing that says that drained my battery is Siri and Find My, which makes no sense how Siri would drain since I wasn’t even using Siri… and for Find My it makes no sense that it would drain over 60% of my battery in the span of a day.

I’m 9 days in and super unimpressed with the battery life.

At this very moment flying NYC to LA and with two hours to go, I’m down to 33%. I should have plenty of battery left, and simply not the case.

My previous 4th gen iPad Pro seemed to last much longer. 🤔 don’t quite know what to do, can’t get the old one back - and don’t really want it back, this generally performs much better, but the battery is not performing as expected nor as represented by Apple.

Yes, for me too. Branta makes a good point about the new toy factor, but I never got over that stage with my previous iPad, so I've been using this new one exactly the same (which I admit is a lot.)

I'll wait for a few days to let things settle in, but first impression is that it's using battery markedly faster than the 12.9" Pro. I passed that one on to my wife, so I can run some comparison tests if it persists.

I recently bought my new M4 iPad Pro and have hardly any apps on it. Morning I had 68% battery and just after browsing on safari for 5hrs brought by battery down to just 6%. Its draining way too fast during simple web surfing without videos and also in standby it looses between 5-10%. What’s the point of adding M4 or heavy processors when the apps don’t even need 40% of it while the battery doesn’t last more than just few hours 😓

I took my ipad m4 to the genius bar due to the same issues as everyone here, BATTERY DRAINS FAST.

Apple staff tweaked and updated the ipad and told me to return if still experiencing the same thing. Well it still does the same thing. So I went back today. The staff that assisted me it is normal for this new Ipad for the battery to drain this fast. NOT HAPPY!

It is not acceptable to have large amounts of battery drain with no app activity. I personally think that some battery drain while iPad is on standby of around 3 percent overnight is acceptable. Here is an interesting point. If you charge your iPad to 100 percent and leave it charging for say 5 hours past when it says 100 percent yiu will notice that it never uses any battery drain as it sits at 100 percent for ages. Very strange.

My new 2024 11 inch iPad Pro is seeing issues with the battery draining overnight from 80% to 0% it wouldn’t even turn on in the morning. Any ideas why it can drain when off? I never had an iPad do this in the past. My old v1 iPad Pro still hold a better charge. In fact, it was sitting right next to the 2024 iPad and it still has plenty of charge and hasn’t been plugged in for a few days.

Something isn't right.

Try a forced-restart of your iPad - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:

Otherwise, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively and perhaps easier, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad - and you can explore your available options:

Be aware that if purchased directly from Apple, you have 14-days within which to unconditionally return your new iPad for exchange or refund. If you have any issues that cannot be easily resolved, you would be best advised to make use of the opportunity while it is available.
