FCPX export file automatic rename (Automator?)

Hi there,

I’m looking for a solution to automatically rename files when exporting from FCPX. My workflow involves frequently exporting stills and short clips, and it’s frustrating to have the files default to the project name each time. Manually adding “1, 2, 3…” to the filenames is significantly slowing me down.

I need a method to automatically rename files each time I export, whether sequentially or randomly, so I don’t have to type in new names manually every time.

I’ve done some research and found that FCPX doesn’t offer a native solution for this. However, I’ve seen mentions of using Automator with Folder Actions to sequentially rename files in a specific folder. After setting it up, I’ve found that it only works intermittently; sometimes the files are renamed, and other times they aren’t.

Has anyone discovered a stable and consistent way to achieve automatic renaming when exporting from FCPX?

Thanks in advance!

CommandPost might be able to help with some of this. It has a Batch Export Active Timeline function with custom filename and incrementing. There is also scripting available to build your own actions.
