Usb mouse not working on Macbook Air

I'm able to connect a pendrive with a type-C-to-usb adapter, but not a mouse. What could possibly be the reason, and how can I fix it?

Device: MacBook Air M2

OS: Sonoma 14.5

Since you're using an Apple-Silicon-based notebook, by any chance, could you be running into this?

If your Mac asks you to allow an accessory to connect - Apple Support
