does iPhone use passthrough charging

Does iPhone support passthrough charging? Passthrough as I understand means I can keep the iPhone connected to a usb port indefinitely and the battery would cease receiving electricity for charging without the battery getting damaged from too much charging. I want to know if keeping my iPhone plugged in to a charger will damage the battery.

Keeping the phone plugged in will not damage the battery. The “charger” is a microcircuit (specifically a Tristar U2 chip) in the phone that regulates battery charging; it is not the power source or the cable connecting the power source to the iPhone. And that charger stops charging the phone once it reaches 100%. After that the external power source powers the phone instead of the battery, so leaving it plugged in is actually a way to reduce the number of battery charge cycles over the long term.
