Mac and iPad Books Not Synching Completely

MacOS Ventura Air M2 that I am trying to sideload my books onto my iPad Mini 17.4.1.

I don't want to dal with iCloud so I want to sideload/cable synch my content from my Mac to my iPad. I have a bunch of books, and most of them seem to have come over fine, but two of them are complete files on the Mac, but only a few pages end up on the iPad. I have tried to re-synch, erased the book from the iPad, etc. Any ideas what I am missing?
