I have a newer MacBook Air (2023) and running Sonoma 14.3. My Mail App will not open and quits unexpectedly. I have not tried to use it up until today but I need to access older mail files. Does anyone have advice how to open Mail on my laptop?

As the Mail app isn't working as expected:
You may want to try restarting your Mac: Eg: On your Mac, choose Apple menu > Restart.
If you haven't yet set up Mail: Apple Support have a video that may help get started with the latest Mail app, and to access those older mail files.
